Our services include Breakfast club and After-School Wraparound Care, Holiday Clubs, and Respite Care. 1. Introduction GreatNEcaringhandsCIC is committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment for all children and young people: a) With Special Educational Needs (SEN), and b) With learning disabilities. Our commitment applies to our wraparound club and associated activities. This Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy outlines the processes and procedures that underpin our commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all children and young people in our care. It also establishes clear protocols for responding to concerns about their safety and wellbeing. 2. Purpose and Scope This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, and stakeholders involved with GreatNEcaringhandsCIC. This includes, but is not limited to, staff of any third parties that may be partners or affiliates of our projects. This policy aims to: •Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children and young adults in our care •Provide guidance on identifying, reporting, and responding to safeguarding concerns •Foster a culture of vigilance and openness where concerns can be raised and addressed without fear of retribution 3. Legal Framework This policy is underpinned by relevant legislation and statutory guidance, including but not limited to: •The Children Act 1989 and 2004 •The Education Act 2002 •Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 •Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018) •Keeping Children Safe in Education (2022) 4. Safeguarding Representatives GreatNEcaringhandsCIC has designated safeguarding representatives responsible for overseeing all safeguarding concerns: •Helen Steph – Lead Safeguarding Officer •Ann Nganga – Deputy Safeguarding Officer •Mariam Ogabi – Safeguarding Officer •Abimbola Oguntade – Safeguarding Officer These representatives are trained in safeguarding procedures and are available to provide guidance and support to staff, volunteers, and parents. 5. Our Commitment to Safeguarding GreatNEcaringhandsCIC is guided by the following principles: The Best Interests of the Child We will always act in the best interests of the child, prioritising their safety and wellbeing. Empowerment We will empower children and young adults to understand their rights and to voice any concerns about their safety. Prevention We will take proactive steps to create a safe and secure environment, minimising risks to children and young adults. Partnership We will work collaboratively with parents, guardians, and external agencies to ensure the safety and welfare of those in our care. Identifying Signs of Abuse or Neglect All staff and volunteers must be aware of signs of abuse or neglect, including but not limited to: •Unexplained injuries or changes in behaviour •Fear of certain individuals or situations •Withdrawal or changes in communication •Signs of neglect, such as inadequate clothing or poor hygiene 6. Reporting Procedures Any staff member or volunteer who suspects or becomes aware of a safeguarding concern must: Rule 1 – Record the Concern Document the concern as soon as possible, noting specific incidents, dates, times, and individuals involved. An incident book shall be maintained at all times for this purpose. Rule 2 – Report the Concern Immediately report the concern to one of the designated safeguarding representatives: •Mariam Ogabi •Ann Nganga •Abimbola Oguntade •Helen Steph Where the concern is recorded by a designated safeguarding representative, all rules and guidance must be followed. Guidance 1 – Maintain Confidentiality Information should be shared only with those who need to know in order to protect the child or young adult. Guidance 2 – Responding to Concerns Upon receiving a safeguarding concern, the designated safeguarding representative must: •Conduct an initial assessment to determine the appropriate course of action •Maintain accurate and confidential records •Refer the matter to external agencies (e.g., social services or police) if necessary and in line with local safeguarding procedures 7. Training and Awareness All staff and volunteers will receive regular safeguarding training covering: •Recognising signs of abuse and neglect •Reporting procedures •Understanding the importance of safeguarding within our setting 8. Confidentiality and Information Sharing GreatNEcaringhandsCIC is committed to maintaining confidentiality regarding safeguarding concerns while recognising that information may need to be shared with relevant authorities to protect the child or young adult. 9. Review and Monitoring This policy will be reviewed annually or in response to significant changes in legislation or practice. Ann Mweru Nganga

My name is Ann, and I am a Director of Great Ne Caring Hands CIC, a community interest company dedicated to providing compassionate, inclusive support services for children and young people with special needs and disabilities. Great Ne Caring Hands CIC delivers essential, person-centred services that promote emotional wellbeing, independence, and social inclusion. Our work focuses on early intervention, tailored support, and working in partnership with families and professionals to ensure children and young people feel safe, valued, and supported to reach their full potential. I am a graduate Mental Health Nurse, having completed a Bachelor of Science in Mental Health Nursing at Teesside University in September 2025. I also hold a Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, a Level 2 NVQ in Health and Social Care, and an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Health, providing me with a strong foundation in health, social care, and mental health practice. Alongside my role as a Director, I work in a residential care setting supporting individuals with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other complex mental health conditions. I bring over ten years of experience in health and social care, with a strong commitment to safeguarding, advocacy, and delivering high-quality, person-centred care. Through my work with Great Ne Caring Hands CIC, I am passionate about reducing inequalities and creating meaningful, community-based support services that make a positive and lasting difference to children, young people, and families.

Mariam Ogabi 

Mariam Ogabi is a dedicated and experienced registered Mental Health Nurse and Ofsted-registered childminder based in the UK, bringing over a decade of expertise in supporting children and young people from early years to Key Stage 3. With a strong commitment to mental health and well-being, Mariam has developed a comprehensive skill set that enables her to effectively address the diverse needs of her clients. Mariam holds a Bachelor of Science in Mental Health Nursing from Northumbria University, where she gained a thorough understanding of mental health issues and therapeutic interventions. She further enhanced her professional qualifications by completing a Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young People's Mental Health, equipping her with the knowledge necessary to support the mental health needs of young individuals. In her pursuit of educational excellence, Mariam achieved a Level 3 Award in Education and Training from Barnfield College in Luton. This qualification has enabled her to facilitate learning and development opportunities for children and young people, fostering an environment that promotes growth and resilience. In addition to her clinical and educational expertise, Mariam serves as one of the directors at GreatNEcaringhandsCIC, where she plays a pivotal role in shaping community-focused initiatives aimed at improving mental health and well-being among children and families. Her leadership and vision have been instrumental in the organisation's mission to provide compassionate care and support. Mariam's academic journey is complemented by her Master’s degree in Project Management from the University of East London, equipping her with the strategic and organisational skills necessary to manage and implement effective programmes that benefit children and young people. With her extensive experience, professional qualifications, and unwavering passion for mental health and child development, Mariam Ogabi is committed to making a positive impact in the lives of those she serves.

Helen Stephen

Helen Stephen is a Registered Adult Nurse in the UK with a strong commitment to delivering safe, compassionate, and person-centred care. She brings extensive experience from mental health settings, where she has supported individuals with diverse and complex needs, always promoting dignity, well-being, and a holistic approach to care. Helen holds a BSc in Adult Nursing from Northumbria University, providing her with a strong clinical foundation and a comprehensive understanding of how illness impacts individuals and their families. She also holds CACHE Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas in the Children and Young People’s Workforce (QCF) – Early Learning and Childcare Pathway from Newcastle College, enhancing her expertise in child development, safeguarding, and family-centred care. In addition to her clinical practice, Helen is a Director at GreatNEcaringhands CIC, where she plays a vital role in leading community-based initiatives focused on improving the mental health and well-being of children, young people, and families. Her leadership reflects a deep commitment to inclusive, compassionate support and positive community impact. Helen is dedicated to making a meaningful difference through professional excellence, ethical practice, and person-centred care.
